So why do companies commit the business equivalent by letting calendar years go by before updating their Web sites? Probably for the same reason other tasks go undone: workload, lack of staff, funds, or plain old apathy. Sad to say, but more than a few businesses put up a site and forget about it. The reason really doesnt matter. A Web site last updated November 2001 shouts we dont care enough about current and prospective customers and clients to keep our only 24×7 marketing tool current. And that kind of message puts companies out of business. Thats not to say you need to update your Web site as if it is a daily or weekly newspaper. You can, however, find a happy medium between never and on the hour. Quarterly, for example. If your company puts out a quarterly newsletter, make sure it goes on the Web site. Give it a nice visible link right on your home page. Same with any white paper, company announcement, press release or any media coverage your company or employees receive. If your company does none of those things, perhaps its time to consider it, especially newsletters. Besides being a great vehicle to keep in touch with your existing customers, a regular newsletter gives you a built-in reason to consistently update your site. Updates dont necessarily have to be of a marketing nature. Perhaps your company added a new service or hired a new manager or executive. Maybe one of your management team added a degree or certificate to their resume and their bio needs reworking. Keeping your Web site fresh and updated truly is a mindset you need to develop it in order to maximize your Web presence. Otherwise, its easy to let things slide. Case in point, a recent acquaintance who has a coaching practice. The Web site had literally not been updated since 1998. In wardrobe terms, thats a whole month of wearing the same outfit. In an office setting that might make you the company eccentric. In business, that puts you on mighty thin ice. And with spring in the not-too-distant future, thats no place for your company to be. Here are some tools that are brilliantly simple and with them you really wont have to sweat the small stuff. Hot Dope #1) The more that your potential customers see your name in front of them, the more likely they are to call your number (and not someone elses) when they need the services you offer. Many marketing efforts go unrewarded, not because they were off target but simply because they werent given enough of an opportunity to work. Showing your TV commercial one time, running an ad in the newspaper once, or doing one mailing of postcards may not be enough to grab and keep the audiences attention. Get your name out there, do it on a regular basis and people will remember you when they need someone in your line of business. You should also know that taking the time to really see which pieces will generate the response you want will pay off. Dont just totally give up when a response is low persistence is vital. You must know your customers and what they want in order to serve them. The key question is, How do I find out who my target audience is and what their expectations are? Here are the four best ways to define and understand your target market. 1. Ask. Ask your current customers and those you consider to be potential customers. Mind reading is not a valid strategy. Asking these people a few well phrased questions can save you hours of market research. They are experts, so why not get the information straight from the horses mouth? No one can give you better advice about what your customers want and what they will respond to, than they can. Consider using a survey to gather answers. You can do this with a paper survey, a telephone survey, an online survey or in person with customers. While most people dont mind and even enjoy giving their opinion, be sensitive to make sure you are not bothering them or intruding on their time. Always ask if they have time to speak with you when you are conducting a telephone or an in person survey, and give them an idea of how much time you are asking for and then stick to that commitment. 2. We will start out with equipment you will need. You will need at least 2 identical rod and reel combo’s. One reel need to have a heavier line, around 14# test is a goodweight to start. This reel will be used to cast heavier lures suchas plastic worms, spinner baits and jigs.I would have around 10# on the other reel. This reel will be usedto cast smaller lures with.You will need a medium size tackle box and I would suggestpurchasing a few different color plastic worms with some beingdark and some lighter colors. Use the larger, darker worms in dingy water and the lighter colorin clear water. I prefer worms around 7 inches long. I would use 7/16 ozsliding worm sinkers and a size 3 worm hook.You will also need a few 7/16oz spinner baits of different colorsand a few medium running crank baits.Now you need to take your new equipment out to the back yardand practice casting until you are good at hitting your target.Putting your lure in the right spot is a huge part of being asuccessful bass angler.
