Beginners Guide on Acrylic Painting - How to Set Out Your Equipment for Easy Acrylic Painting

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

By Catherine Calder OK you have all the things you need to begin acrylic painting, right? You have acrylic paints, brushes, painting surface, palette, and a container of water. Well, by taking a minute to set out your acrylic painting materials in an organized manner you will enjoy your painting session even more. Ideally when you begin acrylic painting you will have a work space that is level and in a good light. Artificial light can make the colors look different when compared to natural light. It is a good idea to get full spectrum light bulbs from an art store if you have to paint in artificial light. This is a worthwhile investment. Layout you palette, paints, brushes and water to the right hand side if you are right handed or left if you are left handed. It is handy to have some paper towels too. Acrylic Painting Tip Try to get into the habit of placing the paints in the same position on the palette every time you paint. This will save you time you wouldnt be searching for a color if you always put it in the same position. I like to group colors, like having all the blues together. It is most important to always put the white in the same place. Tips on Placing Your Painting Materials I position the palette next to me I am right handed so it is to the right. Then the tubes of acrylic paint to the rear of the palette. I use a reservoir palette that has a space for the brushes, but if I didnt I would have the reservoir for the brushes to the right of the palette. I store the dry, clean brushes Im not using in a jam jar with the brush handle ends down so that the tips do not get bent out of shape. This is to the far right of all the other equipment. I place the water container(s) to the rear of the painting area but within easy reach. The paper towel is there too. Be sure to cover the work surface as any acrylic paint that dries on it will be difficult or impossible to remove. And my Top Tip is to put any drink on the opposite side - away from the palette and paint. Otherwise you will end up cleaning your brush in your drink and believe me it wont add to the flavor! Short Curly Hairstyles - Sultry, Sassy and Sexy

Monday, May 26th, 2008

By Savanah Douglas If you crave curls, and the sassy look that they give then perhaps a short and sassy curly hairstyle if just right for you. It’s true that the way that you wear your hair is what will define who you are, and that goes for whether you are wearing your hair long or short, but when you wear a short curly hairstyle you must keep in mind that you are limiting the amount of options that you have for wearing your hair. If your hair is long you can wear it up or down, in a wrap or in a bun, but when you have curly short hair your hair is that, short and curly. Are you bold enough to wear it that way? Taking care of short curly hairstyles is more than just washing it and then running a pick through your hair, although in a pinch you can do just that. (I like to call it wash and go hair) You need to choose the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair, not only to match the style but to match your particular hair type. Using the right products will help you to keep your hair shiny and healthy and to reduce frizz that can happen with the shorter hair styles. You can also use a curl enhancer to keep your curls cute and tight. Just make sure that you buy higher end products so that you know that you are treating your hair the best that you can. So if you have the hair, and the personality to match, why not try a short and curly hairstyle, it’s a bold move for some and a natural choice for others. Are You Trapped in a Sexless Marriage?

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

By Sarah Schultz You may have noticed a new relationship topic popping uprecently: that of the sexless marriage. Experts define a”sexless marriage” as a married couple engaging in sex no morethan 10 times per year. More and more advertisements for drugsare being invented to help us increase our sexual desire. How-toguides in the form of books and articles are being written tohelp us ignite the intimacy that (apparently) 15% - 20% of usare lacking these days. And it’s become a hot topic ontelevision shows such as The Today Show and Dr. Phil. So what’s causing this sudden drop in sexual performance? Arewe bored with sex? Are we too tired? Have we chalked sex up toanother thing we have to cross off our to do list? No one knowsthe exact reasons for the apparent drop in sexual desire. Buthere are some of the experts’ best guesses: - We’re simply exhausted. With the majority of married couplesnow working outside of the home, both partners are workingdouble-shifts. They wake up early, get the kids off to school, put in a full day at the office, come home to cook, clean, dohomework and (if they’re lucky) grab a shower before ploppinginto bed. This certainly doesn’t do much to elevate sexualdesire, does it? - We feel guilty. Couples with children (especially women, butthis goes for men too) feel a certain amount of guilt forworking so many hours outside the home, so they spend most oftheir free time with the kids. The focus is on the family, rather than on the intimate relationship between the couple. - We’re over-stimulated. With tv, computers, crackberries, cell phones, bills, junk mail, and everything else that demandsour attention on a daily basis, we find ourselves getting suckedinto the boob tube every night, rather than spending a romanticevening alone. Without this mental and emotional foreplay, getting in the mood becomes another “task”. - We’re being treated for depression. Ironically, ourincreasing diagnosis of depression may be contributing to ourlack of action in the bedroom. One of the side-effects of manyanti-depressants is a loss of libido. The possibility thatmarried couples are losing interest in sex may be a result oftheir dependence on anti-depressant medications. - The Sexual Revolution. Sex used to be a forbidden affairreserved for married couples. It was considered a taboo topicof discussion and a sacred act between man and wife. Over thelast 30 years, our experience with and knowledge about sex hasincreased. Most people these days come into a marriage alreadyhaving had several sexual partners. For better or worse, sexisn’t as much of a mystery to a married couple, which may belessening the desire for it. - Loss of Gender-Roles. Again trends in the culture of oursociety may be another reason for our lack of sexual activity. These days, there’s a dichotomy between the skills that makes awoman successful at work, and what makes her desirable at home. Many women spend the majority of their day at the officemanaging others, mutli-tasking, meeting deadlines and dealingwith the corporate structure - not typically feminine traits. These days, it seems a woman’s identity of herself as afeminine, sexual being comes into conflict with herresponsibilities outside the home. These are just a few of the reasons behind the rise of theSexless Marriage. So, what are we to do about it? Well, thefirst question should be: is it really a problem? Is thissomething that threatens to break down our social structure andcause chaos? Is this “lack of sex” really that big of a deal? Many experts say yes. Physical intimacy is clearly a vital partof a healthy and positive relationship. Sex brings an emotionalcloseness to a marriage that is important in creating lastinglove. The importance of re-connecting periodically allows acouple to strengthen their bond in a unique way. However, what has also been suggested is that this arbitrarynumber of “10 times per year” may not be all that important. What is important, according to most experts, is that both youand your partner are satisfied and happy with the amount of sexyou have. If that happens to be once a year, then so be it.Taking this into account, shouldn’t the real definition for theterm “sexless marriage” be: “a marriage within which at leastone partner desires more occurrences of sexual activity”? How To Deal With Former In-Laws (Before They Morph Into The Outlaws)

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

By Fiona M We have all heard the horror stories when it comes to in-laws. There is the mother in law that rings you up to check her 25 year old son is wearing clean underwear to work each day. There is the intimidating father in law who is still not convinced your intentions are honorable (even though you have been married (and faithful) to his daughter for more than 15 years). In-laws want your partners attention, time and priority treatment. They want to be able to say jump and for your partner to ask how high? And they may or may not be welcoming of some upstart like you who has usurped their position as the centre of their childs attention. Of course, at the same time there are in-laws that are decent folks; fantastic around your children, people who love you too, people you consider your family, or to be genuinely nice people who want to see you flourish and succeed in your relationship with their son or daughter. If you do not like your in-laws and you have neither a need or desire to maintain relations with them, it is simply a matter of cutting your losses and walking away. But what do you do if your in-laws are genuinely nice and you would like to maintain a post-divorce relationship with them? How do you handle it? Or, what if there are children of your relationship, so your in-laws are grandparents potentially with their own rights to access so it is not so easy to just turn on your heels and flee into the hills. What do you do then? Blood is thicker than water. Let us start with the obvious. Blood is thicker than water, there it has been said. And it is true. Despite your harmonious relationship with your in-laws, separation (or divorce) changes everything for everybody involved, especially extended family members who feel compelled to support their own even when they truly love you too. Nine times out of ten, when it comes to the crunch, his family will support him even if they tell you that they do not like or approve of something he might have done to cause the relationship breakdown. This is because they love him and have emotionally invested in him for a long time. He will always be their child. If you like your in-laws you may well want to continue to have pleasant relationships with them despite your relationship breakdown with their son or daughter. This is relatively straightforward to achieve you just need to drop in for a chat from time to time and keep the conversation upbeat and positive, avoiding any negative discussion about their offspring. You should be prepared, however, when their son or daughter does meet someone new that they become serious about, your former in-laws will most likely get to know them in the same way they got to know you, and chances are good that over time you all might just drift apart. Even if you have a monster of a mother in law, when children are involved there will probably be ongoing interactions so you might as well make it as pleasant for yourself as possible. Try the following practical tips in your efforts to tame the mighty monster. Five Practical Tips To Tame The Monster Tip Number 1 Do not be deafened by silence and do not be afraid to initiate the communication. Your former in-laws may not know whether they are allowed to call you, whether you would welcome their call or whether you would prefer your personal space unless you give them guidance. Tip Number 2 Accept that the situation will cause change and change by its very nature can initially cause a bit of discomfort or awkwardness. You do not need to apologize for this awkwardness or even attempt to justify it, although there is nothing wrong with acknowledging what everybody already knows. Tip Number 3 Remember that they are his family first and your family second. Generally speaking, families will feel compelled to support each other in times of crisis. (If it was you walking a mile in their shoes, you would probably behave the same way too.) Show restraint. Do not recall in sordid detail the reasons for your relationship breakdown or recant endless hours of talk about what he did wrong. You can save all that for your girlfriends, a journal or a therapist. Tip Number 4 The more you continue to communicate and interact with each other in a friendly way, the more used to the situation you will all become and this will help you all to relax. Of course, the more relaxed you are with each other, the better the chances of establishing a harmonious relationship with your former in-laws one that is a direct relationship in its own right and quite separate from their relationship with your ex. Tip Number 5 Treat your in-laws like you should treat your children. Be kind, be gentle, be tolerant and above all else pick your battles. Set boundaries in your mind as to what you will and will not tolerate and set the ground rules (gently). Final Thoughts When couples separate or divorce, everyone is affected and things change and in most instances, they will never be the same again. This is especially true when it comes to relationships individuals with extended family members such as their in-laws. This is not something to be afraid of; it is simply an adjustment in the way that you think given the circumstances. If it is possible to maintain a harmonious relationship, you should try to pursue it. Dont be afraid to initiate the communication with them. If your separation is fresh, talk about how it might affect them (or does not affect them) without getting drawn into conversation about their son or daughter or your relationship demise. Be careful what you say and to whom; hold your head high and keep your dignity intact. In the long run, even your in-laws will have to respect you for it. If there are children involved, you want them to grow up into well adjusted adults. After all, once they do become adults, it might well be your turn to morph into an in-law. Single Friend Etiquette: What Not to Ask an Unmarried Person

Friday, May 9th, 2008

By Heather Rhoades You would think in today’s world where the word old spinster is an outdated phrase and confirmed bachelor means something very different than it used to years ago, people would have learned how to speak to an unmarried person politely. But I still hear rude personal questions and offhand remarks from other people about the fact that a person is not married. Most of the time, these impolite comments are made right to the persons face. There is certain etiquette when speaking to an unmarried person about the fact that they are unmarried. These are the five basic rules: 1. Do not refer to or ask how old a person is when talking about the fact that they are not married yet. In today’s world, people get married in their 30s, 40s, even 50s for the very first time. Many people today consider getting married in your 20s to be too young and so they wait until they’re a little bit older and more mature in order to find the right person. Not only are you being impolite when making comments about an unmarried persons age but you are also terribly old fashioned. 2. Do not ask the person to explain why they are still single. People have millions of reasons for being single. Each and every one of these reasons is none of your business. Don’t ask if it has anything to do with children, being gay or sexual fears. Asking for a reason is just rude. 3. Do not assume that the person is not married because they have a fear of responsibility. Many people who are staying single into later life feel that they are being very responsible with this decision. With the rising divorce rates, many people firmly believe it is better to wait to get married rather than rush into anything that will result in heartbreak and financial ruin. 4. Do not accuse a person of being too particular. Just because you found the perfect partner early on, does not mean that everybody else will. Everyone is entitled to take as much time as they need to find right person for them. No one rushed you, so don’t rush them. 5. Do not ask an unmarried person what exactly they are looking for. I don’t think anybody actually knows what exactly they’re looking for in a soul mate. Even if someone thinks they know exactly they are looking for, chances are the person they eventually end up with will not be anything like they imagined. So it is just best not to ask. So there you have it, five easy rules for the etiquette of speaking to an unmarried person. Just because the person is still single does not mean they are any less of a person and does not give you any more right to be a pompous ass. How to Write Effective Emails on a Dating Site

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

By George Wood Are you a member of an online dating service? Have you ever felt frustrated on not getting any responses from people? Have you tried a lot of tricks but none of them have worked so far? If you are a victim of online dating crisis then this article is for you! We will tell you some basic strategies of writing effective emails that are guaranteed to get responses. Just keep reading on and find out how easy and within reach success really is! 1. Start off by writing simple emails commenting on one or more aspects of a persons profile. For example, consider their hobbies. If they have an unusual hobby or an interest that matches one of your own, then comment on them. 2. Ask them something about one of their qualities. People are often touched by someones concern about one of their shortcomings and vulnerabilities. If somebody has mentioned he/she is a quiet person, ask them if they would like to break the ice sometime and spend a delightful evening with someone like you. 3. Ask about their online dating experience so far. Tell them some of your own experiences. 4. If they have written something that interests you particularly, e.g. some sport or activity, then ask about it enthusiastically and tell them how thrilled you were to have found a person with whom your interests match. 5. Give a humorous touch to your email. Relate something they have written in their profile with a popular joke or funny saying by some celebrity. Ask them if they think the same. 6. Dont criticize about their views on life, family and future. Ask them humbly where those views got their roots from. Tell them you would love to have a partner whose moral values match theirs. 7. Avoid serious and boring topics, e.g. politics, economics, history of Christianity and other similar topics. Girls usually hate guys who are utterly serious. Guys, on the other hand, hate it when girls try to be over-informative about such matters. 8. Ask about their opinion on first date, romance, love, marriage, commitment etc. in a humble and humorous way without implying anything or letting them know your underlying intentions. 9. Ask about their favorite movies, celebrities and players and tell them that you would love to watch a particular movie with them judging by their interests. 10. Tell them what you liked the best about their profile honestly. Also leave a comment on any of their photos. Just follow these simple rules of writing successful emails on any dating site and then wait to get positive responses from people you like! Methods of Fasting

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

By Grata Young The best, safest and most effective method of fasting is juice fasting. Although the old classic form of fasting was a pure water fast, most of the leading authorities on fasting today agree that juice fasting is far superior to a water fast. According to Dr. Rangar Berg, the worldfamous authority on nutrition, “During fasting the body burns up and excretes huge amounts of accumulated wastes. We can help this cleansing process by drinking alkaline juice instead of water while fasting… Elimination of uric acid and other inorganic acids will be accelerated. And sugars in juices will strengthen the heart … juice fasting is, therefore, the best form of fasting.” Vitamins, minerals, enzymes and trace elements in fresh, raw vegetable and fruit juices are extremely beneficial in normalising all the body processes. They supply essential elements for the bodys own healing activity and cell renegeration and thus speeding the recovery. All juices should be prepared from fresh fruit immediately before drinking. Canned or frozen juices should not be used. A precautionary measure which must be observed in all cases of fasting is the complete emptying of the bowels at the beginning of the fast by enema so that the patient is not bothered by gas or decomposing matter formed from the excrements remaining in the body. Enemas should be administered at least every alternate day during the fasting period. The patient should get as much fresh air as possible and should drink plain lukewarm water when thirsty. Fresh juices may be diluted with pure water. The total liquid intake should be approximately six to eight glasses. A lot of energy is spent during the fast in the process of eliminating accumulated poisons and toxic waste materials. It is, therfore, of utmost importance that the patients gets as much physical rest and mental relaxation as possible during the fast. IN cases of fasts in which fruit juices are taken, especially when fresh grapes, oranges or grapefruit are used exclusively, the toxic wastes enter the blood -stream rapidly, resulting in an overload of toxic matter, which affects normal bodily functions. This often results in dizzy spells, followed by diarrhoea and vomiting. If this physical reaction persists, it is advisable to discontinue the fast and take cooked vegetables containing adequate roughage such as spinach and beets until the body functioning returns to normal. The overweight person finds it much easier to go without food. Loss of weight causes no fear and the patients attitude makes fasting almost a pleasure. The first days hunger pangs are perhaps the most difficult to bear. The craving for food will, however, gradually decrease as the fast progresses. Seriously sick persons have no desire for food and fasting comes naturally to them. The simples rule is to stop eating until the appetite returns or until one feels completely well. Only very simple exercises like short walks may be undertaken during the fast. A warm water or neutral bath may be taken during the period. Cold baths are not advisable. Sun and air baths should be taken daily. Fasting sometimes produces a state of sleeplessness which can be overcome by a warm tub bath, hot water bottles at the feet and by drinking one or two glasses of hot water.
